What is a Carnet de Passages en Douane (CPD)?
The Carnet de Passages en Douane, or CPD, is the international customs document which covers the temporary admission of motor vehicles. It is accepted as a customs declaration which makes it possible to identify a motor vehicle temporarily imported. It also incorporates an internationally valid guarantee to cover import duties and taxes and secures their payment should the vehicle not be re-exported.
The CPD is still required today in numerous countries around the world for the temporary admission of private automobiles, commercial vehicles or other categories of motor vehicles. It allows free movement and unencumbered access between foreign countries. Most countries, but not all, allow this option.
A Carnet is valid for one year from the date of issue. The carnet is available either to TACI Members and non- members resident in Iran or to others who have a car registered in Iran. Others must apply to the auto club or carnet issuer in their country of residence.
The Triptych is a bilateral customs document that also covers the temporary admission of motor vehicles. This document is also used in accordance with the provisions of the U.N. Customs Conventions of 1954 and 1956 and issued in Chamber of Commerce and Industries and Mines, Tehran, Iran.
In contrast to the CPD, it is used for the temporary importation of a vehicle into one country only and may be used up to 10 times to visit that country.
